Let's be honest, the craziness of the yanks is about to be felt in full force as Trump tries to "reclaim america" with tariffs and blocks on trade and comms. It's in our best interest to strengthen better ties with others.

The UK's only manufacturing and technology strength is in defence equipment. There is a big opportunity to displace the Americans and capture a lot of the expanded EU nations defence budgets. It's a real economic growth opportunity that Starmer and Reeves must grab.

The big problem is the huge amount of money we spend with the US on Trident. This dominates the budget and limits what we can afford in the convectional side. Replacing our nuclear weapons with a European alternative would be very expensive. We could partner with the French of course.

I think we are too entwined with the US to do much with our nuclear deterrent. However, there is a lot of scope to do stuff with our European friends even working closely with the Ukrainians to develop new systems.
