My dad was a metallurgical engineer within the space program from the 60's until his death in 2014 and knew Mr. Smylie well. He talked about this "fix" at the dinner table often. We also had some of the young astronauts over for dinner a few times when we lived in Houston. Dad called them the kids.
Timely recognition in these days when such dedicated public servants, scientists, and engineers are routinely demonized by MAGA and reactionary right-wing politicians for various reasons, all ridiculous.
Iβm a retired Sheet Metal Worker and want to thank Ed Smylie for creating the greatest duct tape story in history. The movie was incredible; brought back memories. My quick fix kit includes: duct tape, WD-40, stationary clips, ace bandage, wood toothpicks, short bungee cord. RIP βEDβ
Humanity.
When we're at our best, we turn plastic bags, cardboard, rubber tubing, and DUCT TAPE into a life-saving apparatus which helps to shepherd astronauts back home.
We could use a little Congressional Duct Tape right now...

I would make hundreds of dollars after the initial lawsuits.
