I confess to only seeing part of this film. But what I saw did not hold my attention at the time. I do recall being put-off by the exploitive element. Was the controversy of who added those scenes ever resolved?

I love this film, it does exactly what it says on the tin. Never tries to be anything but pure exploitation and nails it. Terrific trash in my humble opinion!😄 Second unit director James Sbardellati shot the additional scenes on the orders of Roger Corman....

That Corman loose-remake series (for Showtime, iirc) was mostly forgettable. I've been meaning to go back and rewatch the "She Creature" though, as it mixed in a bit of "Night Tide". No latex boobs & antennae from Paul Blaisdell, but killer mermaids instead (a decade before it became common).

For once the poster doesn't do the film justice, they have a nasty habit of ripping off bikini tops before attacking! A fun favourite since first seeing it in 81, the exploitation content always surprised me considering it's directed by a woman. And yes, Warner and Landis got off far too lightly...

Oh they certainly are. My friends and I have monster movie nights. I introduce them to various classics and low budget gems. They attended operas and classical concerts as a child so they never saw any of them. They had a deprived life.

Are you sure, thought it was a Blu-ray title, can remember hiring it on VHS under that title as I'd seen it advertised on ITV as humanoids from the deep! , thought they'd changed it for Blu-ray release, don't recall any DVD release.

The on-screen title of the UK cinema release was MONSTER (HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP). We got the full unrestrained version, whereas the US print (presumably titled HFTD) was cut for an R-rating. I think that may account for the difference. The UK title appears on the 'unrated' (ie. uncut) US Blu-ray.

I'm guessing it was a US tape, but if you saw it in the UK, I can't imagine what it was doing there! If you saw it before the introduction of the Video Recordings Act, that might (partially) explain it. Afterwards, it would have to be the UK title for legal reasons.
