So Plibersek goes from being the one put out to explain why they're approving new coal mines to be the one put out to explain why they're not raising Jobseeker.

I'm sure he's a great patron/attendee when he's not sacking artists like Sabsabi on the basis of objections by Jewish fascists. Who knows who else has been given the chop?
No, I can’t. That’s what I spend my money on. Gough and Margaret used to go to the opera too. I have seen other politicians at plays, almost seeming as if they usually go- imagine that!
And Watt is a Commerce / Law person. With this pedigree 👇. Could it be it’s all about making a business out of the natural world?
So inappropriate.
So predictable.
To be fair we don’t know how much she spoke up in cabinet. Perhaps she just couldn’t win there at all. However she’s also not been one to snipe outside the cabinet. She’s shown remarkable restraint.
Should be an easier job. Who does Albo hate from the factional drones put up for a ministry slot by other factional drones that he has to make Environment Minister?
Some long time ago, I think I would have drawn my dignity around my shoulders like shawl and left the building, head held high, content with the good work I’d done in previous roles, rather than do the current government’s dirty work across not one, but now two portfolios.
We put Independents and Greens ahead of ALP who were ahead of LNP.
Hoped for a minority ALP goveernment.
Sadly, not enough other people did the same.
Maybe too lazy to list their preferences?
I point you to my use of the word "viable". That doesn't mean I am a witless wonder who doesn't know how preferences work, just that I recognise that a lot of the lower house tends to go to one of two parties and probably will for another few decades.
i agree. I think the desire to keep Dutton from being PM over-rode any misgivings they may have had for any disappointment in Labor. And of those, some don’t really understand preferential
voting so put Labor 1 - just to be sure.
If only they could take 5 minutes away from their social media accounts to find out.
Oh wait! - There are many people on social media who have explained it thoroughly - only needs a couple of paragraphs.
I've often wondered how much this has to do with our political culture being very mono and team sport like. Because I've seen smart educated people who do understand preferential voting still vote 1 Labor out of fear of the LNP.
I used to think voters care but now I'm actually not so sure. I think they care in a performative sense but not enough to actually act on it in any meaningful way.
If Labor can game this system, they'll find a way to game something even more complex. I've had enough people in the last few days tell me they put Labor first to keep Dutton out, and then preferenced minor parties in the unwinnable second slot, and a few more say it to other people.
Little generosity on offer. Surely he can’t still feel threatened? Surely. Do Trump or Musk need even more money? Psychotic but they endlessly think they do.
A damnable aspect of power struggles: Skills to win the job are a lousy fit with what’s needed to do the job.
Albo ain’t that bad but sad if he’s getting there?
I didn't say I thought she should emulate anyone. I was asking, in effect, which other members of the Labor cabinet you think argue publicly with Albo about Labor policy, or whatever you think constitutes showing they have a spine.
Look at her history with the social service society. Plibersek is perfect for the job, at least she won’t be battling the experienced & powerful fossil fuel industry.
Not content with taking one progressive woman and torpedoing her career by making her the face of indefensible policy, Albo has also assigned Ged Kearney to social services.
i did not come up with "glass cliff" but it applies to situations where you put a woman in to a role when all is likely to go to shit so she can take the fall
Those on job seeker play an integral role in the economy such as the raising or lowering of interest rates as Bullock so dispassionately discussed last year. They should be compensated appropriately for the disruption to their lives while unemployed and assisting the nation not to fall in a hole.
Yes, could be a whipping horse post. But I suspect Labor will raise social security rates. Despite the timidity of the previous term they will have room to act, even if still restrained by fear of backlash. Sadly the voters don't understand social security is basically cost free economically.
So Greg, who would you put in that portfolio? It's a genuine question, I'm not knowledgeable enough about the options/candidates for the role and that portfolio is so important. Who could do a good job there?
Sure but isn't it also possible that when there's a tough job, you want your best person on it? There's a whole lot more to that important portfolio than the rate of jobseeker.
Scanning the replies it feels like the schoolyard - a whole lot of standing around chanting "fight, fight fight" 🤷

Cabinet solidarity is bullshit, just a way to keep dissent hidden
After all, what's the point of being in the cabinet if you're not working towards what you believe in?
Same for Watt (apropos another comment). Fact is: they don't care about either issue.
It's like they've forgotten that they're there to give their best for their electorates first and foremost.
So inappropriate.
So predictable.
If she can't win in the caucus, she should take her case to the electorate.
It's the only way we'll ever break out of this two loud-mouthed and a bunch of hecklers routine.
Not as quickly as many would like, but that's an unfortunate reality of democratic processes.
(Plus she no longer gets to hold a koala to distract from the issues)
or
a bitter pill
Tanya Plibersek has been done over.
Hoped for a minority ALP goveernment.
Sadly, not enough other people did the same.
Maybe too lazy to list their preferences?
As for whether they cared more about these issues than any other... Who knows.
In fact, how many seats were decided by Liberal preferences?
Maybe persuasion and applying pressure are better than decrying the entire nation's indifference.
And through that lens, this is what you get.
voting so put Labor 1 - just to be sure.
Really.
Oh wait! - There are many people on social media who have explained it thoroughly - only needs a couple of paragraphs.
If you think Labor are anti fascists you really do live in a fantasy
Happy to see any ads directly attacking Labor.
Pointing out their failures isn't 'attacking'
Albo ain’t that bad but sad if he’s getting there?

Also Labour: Can’t have that. She’s a threat. Give her every ministry that makes her look bad - immediately
