Left-leaning women are far from united in what to do or how to think about a second Trump presidency. Some feel deeply uncertain about how to reconcile their heterosexuality with a world they view as irredeemably misogynistic.

OH, FOR GOODNESS' SAKE. WHY CAN'T LEFT-LEANING STRAIGHT WOMEN PULL UP THEIR DRAWERS + GET ON WITH LIVING, AS OUR MOMS, GRANDMOTHERS, + G-GRANDMOMS DID? I HAVE 0 PATIENCE WITH THIS.
I am very liberal. So are the men in my life (my husband and all 3 of my grown sons). I don't know anyone who is trying to "reconcile their heterosexualuality.
A GF and I were discussing this and many women we know cannot do without GF’s but are fine without men. But we can chip away at misogyny by raising good sons. It’s not irredeemable.
Yeah, and the article doesn’t really back that up. Here’s the relevant paragraph, essentially saying some left-leaning women are sad and some are angry. (And the “far from united” links to an article about all women, including those who voted for Trump, not left-leaning women.)
Maybe the New York Times can do a piece about how Trump is going to crash our economy. And he’s basically hiring a bunch of billionaire oligarchs. I don’t care what left-leaning women think. Do better.
Could they maybe write about MODERATE left leaning women who are more like me? I am heterosexual, 68, and never found the right man, and I think that the entire concept of gender is a classic example of the social creation of evil. I live a somewhat androgynous lifestye and don't care.
This is hilarious! I thought this was an onion article. Only extreme left ideology wants to separate man from woman instead of uniting us and putting together our biological differences toward a common goal.
The 70 plus men in England who raped an unconscious woman drugged by her husband has turned me off men forever. How does one middle aged man find so many local miscreants? I can’t trust men knowing in groups they’ll cave.
When women like Majorie Taylor Greene, Laura Loomer, Lauren Boebert, Sarah Palin, and Kristi Noem et al are given positions of visibility, they make fools of themselves. There are many women who have visibility on the far right and they all look and act like fools. This women attract the "Karens".
I voted for Obama twice, for Hillary, for Biden, and for Harris. I never considered voting for the orange-shit-stain even for a second. Just sayin’. We exist.
I already wasn't a fan of men, because they are all misogynist to a degree. I never dated because of it, just happened to fall for a friend one day and got married. Trump over the last 8 years made my resentment to men worse.
If homosexuality was a choice, I would be a lesbian 100%.
The white women who voted for Donald Trump probably aren't.
Now they can look forward to having Matt Gaetz as their AG.
Talk about voting against your own interests.
No. This is meaningless. “Women” have other courses of action. Not all our life strategies revolve around men. File this with the “I’m 30 & too old to make babies” stories from the 1990s.
Go out with men who are feminists. Stop being attracted to people you think you can fix. Pick a fixed one, one with a mother who taught him how to be decent man.
Any man who voted for a rapist should never touch another woman again. 4B will be a strong movement. Though plenty of white woken voted for a rapist as well.
Men’s rights will never be on the table because it’s not a sellable emotive cause. However, women’s rights should have never been on the table. You have every right to be afraid of what the Cheeto will do with abortion, but you should be placing 100% blame on Biden for asking Roe be overturned.
How much time does it take to clean the blood off your hands before typing? Maybe just live with the messy keyboards to save time? Does having keyboards soaked in blood cause editing issues?
Between this ridiculous article & the kowtowing stupidity their writers are publishing about RFKjr/Trump, the NYT continues to demonstrate the downward spiral of the Fourth Estate.
JFC, this is not a thing.
Y'all live in an amazing bubble. Aren't you people even a bit embarrassed to publish this?
I think a distinction should be made though, there's many of us who are surrounded by supportive, feminist-leaning men. But, am I still scared to ride public transportation at night alone? Fuck yes I am.
Even our support systems can only do so much.
And one reeeaaaly wonders why on Earth any woman - left leaning or not- with 2 functioning brain cells would even consider voting for any candidate who notoriously engages in misogyny
When one considers that more men voted for Trump than we did for Harris, this isn't a surprise. More of us voted for misogyny, abortion bans, elimination of vaccines, and so many other things.
We can't tell people we love them, yet vote against them and their safety every time.
To be clear, as a straight man, I voted for Harris. I voted for reproductive health. I voted for science. I voted for safety. I've always fought for the people I love, and my vote is just one way I do that.
What's the data source for this post? Was there a survey that I missed? How many varied backgrounds do left-leaning women come from? What's even the point you're making here?
Listen to Michael Steele’s podcast. Many Black women are really mad that 53% of white women would not vote for Harris - instead voting for a rapist & reproductive rights killer.
Next time they are asked to do grassroots or help, will they? Doubtful
The men abandoned us not the other way around, but now they’re going to pay the price. I could never be with the Trump supporter again. I don’t even want to be friends with anybody that supports him. Period. End of sentence.
This is a super weird take by the NYT. What left-leaning women (heterosexual or otherwise) are rejecting are misogyny and patriarchy, not all men on the planet and not our own sexuality.
Until women, as a group, behave like they have agency in everything, this is going to keep on happening. Before you call me names, how many women do you know who stayed in a relationship way too long, and then claimed they had no agency? That’s where the misogyny starts
Most women I know who stayed in abusive relationships didn't leave for a long time, because of coercive control; some because of fear he'd kill them if they left, others because the man controlled the money and they would be homeless if they left. Or are you referring to nonabusive relationships?
First sign of abuse, which happens way before the situations you describe above happen, bail. I’ve known dozens of women in very bad relationships, and what happens they trade one for the next, same guy, different name. Men have no incentive to fix this until they start losing out
I was in an abusive relationship so allow me to enlighten you. I grew up in an abusive home. As a result I became used to behaviours that other kids wouldn't have. So when my first boyfriend called me a name it didn't raise red flags- no anger issues did. Until it was too late. Then I got therapy.
Let me tell you what a nice little act of rebellion it is to not let men in public spaces hold doors open for you anymore. Grab the other door and leave them standing there holding a door for no one.
I voted for Harris. She got a bad hand and didn’t play it well. From Joe being an unpopular incumbent who waited too long to drop after going on stage in an “emperor without clothes” moment, inflation, fled from media, withdrew Walz from media (his strong suit), didn’t distance self from Biden etc.
These kind of articles make me crazy. Many men voted Democrat and many women voted Republican. All this election told me is that half the country doesn’t share my views, and is willing to accept a flawed character as president.
This is the kind of shit that kept a lot of moderate or conservative independents and Dems from wanting to vote Dem. Sane people are tired of the fringe. The problem is the GOP has more mAGA than the Dems have ultrawoke culture warriors.
Another NYT article blames others for Harris's loss while accepting no responsibility. I'm happy the article is behind a paywall, and I most definitely won't be paying for it.
I concur. It's not just left leaning women. I'm part of a chat group with 17 men & women. None of us agree on next steps or what happened & why. We all fall at various points along the left leaning spectrum. That's a fundamental difference between left & right when education comes into play.

what are you doing
"Left-leaning women are far from united in what to do or how to think about a second Trump presidency."
i disagreed
Women. Are they even complete and non-monolithic beings?
If homosexuality was a choice, I would be a lesbian 100%.
Now they can look forward to having Matt Gaetz as their AG.
Talk about voting against your own interests.
Rapists and their supporters are in charge. Women who argue are their enemy.
Women now need to accept it or fight it.
That’s it.
JFC, this is not a thing.
Y'all live in an amazing bubble. Aren't you people even a bit embarrassed to publish this?
Even our support systems can only do so much.
Also it removes them from the dating pool only ensuring more conservative/moderate men date more conservative/moderate women at higher rates.
Good job…
The rest are basically dead to me.
We can't tell people we love them, yet vote against them and their safety every time.
I’m also going to be a patron to women-owned businesses ONLY, wherever possible.
Next time they are asked to do grassroots or help, will they? Doubtful
Heterosexual women, lesbians, and bisexuals share exactly the same gender issues.
Time for a little diversity training at The NY Times.
