Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield rolled back a policy change that would have capped payments for anesthesia for patients, and would have denied claims altogether if any given procedure exceeded a time limit.

that's unconscionable. patients deserve timely and adequate anesthesia care, not arbitrary time limits. capping payments only exacerbates the issue, prioritizing profits over people's health and well-being.
This is what now pops up on the "senior leadership team" page for Elevance: seems there's a bit of panic about how angry the poors are at the staggering greed of corporate America.
Still struggling to understand why people are upset with healthcare companies? Are you gonna write another stupid article focusing on people’s lack of empathy for someone who is responsible for causing incredible suffering for millions of people?
It so sad that 1 person had to lose his mind, murdering a CEO for the oligarchs to pay attention to the people. Let's hope that instead of continuing with the same rhetoric, they actually change course and care for the people and country they supposedly love.
December 15, 2024: Last day to enroll for coverage starting January 1, 2025. If you obtain health insurance on the marketplace, you still have time to change carriers.
To be fair, I would say this is just one of the many evils devised by AI loving CEOs and the lobbyists who do their dead level best to ensure Congress critters vote their bidding. If that makes sense. Who was it that shouted "Eat the rich!"?
If your corporation profit gouges, exploits, profiteers and defrauds the poor, the disabled, the sick and the dying then expect Karma to one day be a real bad ass bitch.
Glad we won’t have to figure out how to wake up through anesthesia to tell the doctor to stop the surgery because the insurance company will stop paying for it in five minutes. What a bunch of slimy, morally bankrupt pond scum.
I can’t help but feel like this happened after a conference room full of executives saw the news and all simultaneously started nervously pulling their collars away from their throats.
I feel bad for the guy’s kids… but that’s pretty much the only thing I find myself able to feel bad about.
Huh, wonder why that is… just can’t quite put my finger on it…I feel like I could hit the target… if only I could get my finger on the trigger in the first place. Oh well, maybe someone else will bullseye the reason.
There's nothing to misunderstand.
These people are plain EVIL, but the real shame is that American voters actually believe that public health would be communism.
In the end, people deserve what's coming if they won't change their minds and support en masse a total reform of healthcare.
@ind84124.bsky.social literally reversing policy the day after the assassination. Well what do you know…. I guess Violence works 🥰🥰😘😘😘but go ahead and continue to defend literal mass murderers and ignore all the families of his victims.
BCBS changed their policy because of the social media backlash, not the violence (which I will never accept as an acceptable solution). You can recognize the problem with vigilantism against CEOs while agreeing that the insurance industry needs massive reform. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.
You still won’t Answer one question: why are you more outraged about the death of a literal mass murderer than any of his thousands of victims? I’ll wait.
I’ve worked in healthcare for ten years and let me tell you - we all are celebrating for good reason. And you still haven’t explained why you’re offended by a mass murders death than literally ANY OF HIS VICTIMS? Why does his death matter more?
You’re being ridiculous and intentionally deceptive. I never one said his death mattered more than any other death or deaths. I just can’t get behind the idea that assassinations - whatever the motive - are be a good or even acceptable thing.
He spent every day his entire career killing people. It’s fucking. Facts. And you’re intentionally refusing to accept it. Of course you can’t answer the question: because you actually value his life over all of his victims.
I can’t answer a question based on a false premise. I never said his life was worth more than any others. I don’t think anyone should have to die because they were unfairly deprived of medical care. But I also don’t think anyone should be assassinated on the street by a vigilante.
Oh the social media backlash? Just randomly? Tell me. - what brought attention to the backlash in the first place? Surely nothing that happened earlier in the day that sparked national news???
Correlation is not causation. I think there would have been plenty of reason for backlash when the BCBS decision was announced regardless of the unrelated assassination of the United Healthcare CEO
Yea you’re right. I’m sure it has absolutely nothing to do with it whatsoever. Just like how CEOs of other companies removing their public info off the next day. Or calling top security services companies the next day. All unrelated I’m sure. Correlation is not causation, amirite lol 🤦🏻♂️
Is it possible that the BXBS decision got more attention because people where hyper focused on the issue following the assasination of the UHC CEO? Sure. But I will never agree that it’s ok to start targeting and killing people on the streets. It amounts to terrorism and is never acceptable.
No one is saying any such thing. This is a recounting of actions and reactions. Is this the level of dialogue it will take for some self-regulation? Would it not be better if a regulatory agency could control this? To be clear, what I, and not the OP, thinks is to expect more bullets. We're there.
They unfortunately announced it the day a health care insurance CEO was murdered. On another day, the push back might have not been so bad. Or the optics.
How crazy that now health insurance is gonna change the policy because one CEO got shot at and died. The policy has always been deny claim collect premiums. American people are sick and tired of these CEO in the health insurance is making millions of dollars off of our hard work money.
We the people are sick and sick of being taken advantage of. We will be tested the next four years in ways never seen before, but we will come out of the dark ages shining and put all of the evil where they belong.
The detachment of the surreal, fantasy, closed conference room world that they live in is hard to grasp as a mere mortal among multitudes of ordinary souls.
How do these people even think this a good idea in the first place? The fact that people have to scream and/or threaten them in order to get it revoked is just stupid.
They decided randomly in July that my specialist would not be covered.
And I didn’t qualify for QLE to change my plan through ACA. Been without care until I can change plans in January.
I learned from this NYC shooter that God helps those who are anxiously engaged in a good cause - be it volunteering at a church or feeding the homeless or killing exploitative CEOs.
And media elite (all with excellent healthcare) are shocked Americans -- Maga, Left, indie -- are raging against the ghouls like Thompson who made millions while KILLING and bankrupting working and middle class. More is coming until the US has a sane system. Report DAILY on sane places like Japan!
What a horrible policy…. This isn’t even one of those “looks good on paper” policies…. It’s just atrocious what capitalism has done to healthcare in this country. It truly has killed more men and women than any disease has. #USHealthcareSucks
I just don't get how they thought drs were doing extended anesthesia as a way to rip off Blue Cross. (there are many other ways, if a doctor is so inclined) People are out, what doctor in his right mind would just extend this time, sit around, have a coffee, whatever. just to stick it to Blue Cross?
I mean god forbid something go wrong… what are they supposed to do? It makes no sense. I hope the guy who drafted this policy gets fired. #GreedIsTHEProblem
I suspect it has more to do with their shareholders than doctors. Every year for-profit healthcare finds more disgusting ways to reduce payments lest they not obtain sufficient profit growth. Problem is, all the easy stuff has already been cut.
poor regulation healthcare in US is just one of the reasons why US citizens that can afford living abroad are coming to europe or other places with cheaper private healthcare or free public healthcare.
Bob's needs to increase executive pay and shareholder riches so will find other ways to deny benefits in order to steal the company wealth and policy holders benefits.
Now the changes implemented are... hide the leadership identity on their website and beefed up security details.
If you have to hide your id when working in healthcare... you're doing it wrong.
Yep. The really miserable thing about this is that these are the only changes we are likely to see. Executives become anonymous and greyhound bus tickets now require a passport and facial ID scan.
We are so sorry but we are going to have to wake you half way thru this Cornea transplant because it just doesn’t meet our predetermined threshold of necessity.
Glad I don't have to plan to have my doctor wake me up if time goes over give me a paralysis injection and continue the surgery with me awake just unable to move.
Corporate greed that would see the suffering, bankruptcy, and death of tens of thousands of Americans (most of whom have paid large sums to insurance premiums for decades) in pursuit of obscene profits. The US insurance industry perpetuates massive fraud and neither party does much about it.
I suspect yesterday's murder has something to do with that. Maybe that's a better method in a country with a 2nd Amendment. Maybe we need more Billionaires and CEOs than schoolchildren to meet their end.

I mean, if someone had a minute or two to spare, they could easily Google up names and pictures of their CEO and Board of Directors.
The only thing will ever change things is the people taking power back from the oligarchs.
There is no justice without fighting for it.
Have pitchfork.
Will travel.
In my experience, Anesthesiologists don't tend to miss a lot of important details.
Above All ; DO NO HARM

BTW is United Health Care still going w the anesthesia issue?
Jesus Murphy. People prefer this to socialized medicine?
Should call him Robin Hood.
It's almost like something happened between them and now that made them reconsider. What on earth might that have been?
