Gov. Tony Evers of Wisconsin, a Democrat, used his veto power to increase school funding limits for 400 years longer than Republican lawmakers in the state had intended.

When Rs push constitutional boundaries, it’s to violate people’s human rights. When Ds do the same, albeit constitutionally according to their state Supreme Court, it’s to *expand* rights for our children.
When I read the details of what he did and how it was ruled I was actually laughing. If it was okay for Republicans to do it, then it's okay for a Democrat to do it. If it's not okay for anyone to do it, they do need to change their law, not just complain about it when a Democrat does it.
Wisconsin ranks 47th in academic transparency. While Governor Tony Evers (D) signed a proposal in 2021 to make school finances more transparent to taxpayers, he vetoed a proposal that would have allowed parents and taxpayers to view the school curricula.
I’m a Minnesotan, living in the Twin Cities… but married to a Wisco gal. DFL’er. But Wisconsin Dems are a special breed. When I think of badgers… fierce, quick, merciless. Evers shows this time and again. Y’all doing great work.
Tony Evers said “checkmate” in 400 year increments. That’s not just a veto that’s a time travel flex. While Republicans play petty politics, Evers just made sure future ghost kids in Wisconsin can still fund their art programs. Legendary move.
Mixed feelings here. Giving money to schools is obviousely a good thing but the executive branch just completely changing a bill after it was passed by the legislative branch strikes me as deeply un-democratic. He may have acted within his powers but I don't support him having such powers.
Tony Evers is doing everything to save WI from Trumpsim. He’s been fantastic. Walker gutted the state and weakened the governor’s office as Walker left the mansion in shame.
