She had a prosthetic foot, due to a shooting accident before the war. She called it Cuthbert. Cuthbert did not prevent her escaping over the Pyrenees.

A German guard once asked Maureen what was in her suitcase.
She laughed. “A wireless, of course!”.
She was never captured.
