It’s true. And to be clear, I actually LOVE the surf music. It’s my favorite part of The Beach Boys catalog. But even the surf music was so much more complex than it gets credit for. Brian was just a brilliant fucking guy.

I think he wasn't conventionally sexy in the way we like our rock-stars. He was a moody, brooding genius, maybe a little neuro-atypical in his brilliant capacity to focus on harmony and find poetry in the everyday. But god: "We'll have fun 'til Daddy takes the T-Bird away" is America.

We have similar taste in favorites, I think. This is also one of mine.

For me, before everything else it's those unearthly, astoundingly complex harmonies; next, his crystalline voice.
