i like that society seems to have largely rejected the idea of smart refrigerators. even rich people were like, eh i don't really need a fridge computer.

I used to sell appliances. Those are gimmicky as hell, and only useful for a very narrow window of consumer. I sold 1 (maybe 2) in 6 years.
Whirlpool was aiming to do the same setup on wall ovens a few years back, where the glass door is just an LED monitor/touchscreen. I hope they abandoned it.
We got a subzero fridge off of market place with a bunch of other crap. I consider that a rich people device and it is the very antithesis of a smart fridge. Exceptionally dumb and 650lb of chunky. No screens, no gimmicks. Just an overbuilt refrigeration loop and compressor.
But imagine your phone being like, “are you SURE you need more cookie dough? Wouldn’t you prefer one of these healthier snacks which I have just ordered from an underpaid delivery app guy?”

three gallons. (Why does the seal always make that k-splortch noise when I open the fridge?)

i mean, it lets you choose crushed or cubed ice and set the temperature, too, but you don’t need a computer for that
... And you could implement that without even using microchips, if you really wanted to.
