NEW from me — a beleaguered New Yorker vents her frustration at how the people the Empire State elected to protect us from fascism have become willing accomplices to Trump's agenda:

If there is an objective history written in future years, Schumer will be in the same league as Joe McCarthy in terms of awful Senators. What he did yesterday was absolutely catastrophic for the country and the party. It's hard to see Democrats recovering from self own this any time soon.
Last shutdown my town was busy collecting food and money for federal employees. Those at federal prison & VA had to work but we're not getting paid. It was exhausting & frightening. Since Schumer prevented shutdown we can put our energy & money to electing 3 Dems to House in April & winning in 2026
An old man who looked dead on arrival, talks to his imaginary fuck friends Joe and Eileen O'Reilly or maybe Baileys whose to say he can't keep track... to decide on which way to #vote. Talks about pizza and then in the end raises his bony Rigamortis finger and votes for fąşčišm. Fuck you chuck.
They're so used to no competition that they feel they can disregard us. They have no idea the HELL that's coming their way.
I'm a leftist so I hate them on a good day, but I'm encouraged to see the normies start to clear their eyes about these useless corporatists who are impediments to progress!
This is so well done. I'm not throwing stones from Illinois after Durbin's bullshit vote, but this New York perspective is fascinating. The part about how NYC got Eric Adams was particularly insightful cuz that's a head-scratcher. Feeling thankful today for @duckworth.senate.gov
He betrayed us 22 years ago when, with millions in the streets in NY protesting, he voted yes on Bush's Iraq War resolution, as did our other Senator at the time, Hillary Clinton. Sadly, this isn't new.
Schumer's reliance on his imaginary Bailey family might be a helpful illustration of the dangers of bias (conscious or not) in decision-making. It's a topic that gets too little attention in software/AI, but here we have a shining example of its impact irl
Yeah. Can we talk about how it should be a bigger deal that he makes policy decisions based on people he made up instead of listening to his constituents? Because it's really messed up.
It seems like a way to absolve yourself from doing a bad job. If you can manufacture consent and support while ignoring actual constituent voices, there's less space to understand or entertain that you're failing as a representative. His constituency is himself.
No they don't. Instead of inventing conspiracy theories, why don't we just acknowledge the obvious truth, these senators are out of touch with their constituents and responding to their donors. And they're cowards.
Seriously, can someone explain what's happened to Gillibrand? Is her change in response to the Franklin backlash? Does she think this is a step to leadership? What's her deal?
Unfortunately, shutting down the government would have allowed a worst-case scenario. Can you imagine the field day DOGE would have had with no one looking over their collective shoulders?
Shutting down the government would have ended our democratic republic. That was the alternate choice.
It is amazing these two losers represent the Democrats. What they have done is unforgiveable. To me they are MAGA, they are certainly not Democrats. Jeffries is the weakest leader and Schumer is bought and paid for.. why would they go MAGA?
Shutting down government would make Democrats complicit in the Republican process of destroying government, something blocking the CR would not have affected in the slightest.
New Yorkers, look at that pair and honestly tell me if they are the right leaders to defend our democracy. No way; these two need to go on a permanent vacation. Maybe they should take advantage of a two-by-one coupon.
trump called schumer palestinian a day or two earlier. it is remarkable. i want to know what schumer considered that took precedence - above the insult and above the political threat
Now Trump used it as a slur, but a fair number of West Bank residents might agree that he would fit right in with the leaders of the Palestinian Authority.
Despite the general misery, there are still a few bright spots in New York progressive politics. @newyorkstateag.bsky.social @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social @aoc.bsky.social
I feel the same. And I want to know when @newyorkstateag.bsky.social will be announcing discrimination charges against Mt Sinai & NYU Langone for denying care to trans patients, since the former began that in December.
Senator/House make $174,000/yr. NY Gov. $250,000/yr. My City Manager (pop. 20,000) $235,000/yr. We could start paying them commiserate with the job. Pass legislation that req. they be in session 40 hr/wk, say 48 wks/yr.; ban outside income w/ conflicts; ban stock trading, etc. Spitballing here.
He doesn't consider himself accountable to you. He does what his donors want. They are concerned about the stock market collapsing before they divest. Once their treasure is safely offshore, they don't give a hoot what happens.
Rolling over and waiting for the republicans to be more agreeable is the same losing strategy that the democrats have been using for quite some time now. Which is why Schumer and the rest of the old guard need to go.
In Clint Smith's book How The Word Is Passed, I learned NYC tried, at first, to stay neutral during the Civil War, not wanting to piss off Wall Street. This loving allegiance to money is a solid brick in the city's foundation and evil.

The yes votes were driven by fear - the no votes were driven by courage - we need leaders who are courageous
What's different with Gillibrand is that she was bought by the crypto industry, not traditional banks. So she became worse than the average NY pol.
Shutting down the government would have ended our democratic republic. That was the alternate choice.
Oops....Did I say "bribed"? I meant "campaign contributions."

If I may suggest, you may want to keep your eye on @delgadoforny.bsky.social, as well.
We should change this policy. I have no step-by-step plan, but what else will repair this?
(I'll delete this skeet in a couple minutes as it's useless in itself)

That’s you
