After our street tree died, we replaced it with a kwanzan cherry. It’s really beautiful this year.

I think we planted this about 10 years ago, which makes it a tween. The 2nd year it was in the ground, a deer scratched its antlers on the trunk. We were afraid the tree wouldn’t make it, but it healed up & started growing vigorously by year 4 or 5. Gets more beautiful every year. 🩷

Besides staying green under the snow and blooming pinkly at the very start of the season, Bergenia just generally kicks ass as a space filler and edge softener.
