I know Pope Leo XIV to be a kind, open, humble, modest, decisive, hard-working, straightforward, trustworthy, and down-to-earth man. A brilliant choice. May God bless him.

Can you comment on the fact that he, alongside every other pope in history, has allowed child sexual assault to flourish, all while turning a blind eye to it and protecting some of the offenders?
I'm legitimately asking. I would appreciate an answer.
Yeahhh... A couple of things about this new Pope concerns me. He's anti-LGBTQ+ and he's opposed to ordaining women as deacons. Therefore I'm not a fan.
(Before you ask, yes -- I did my research. I always research info before I post. It's the responsible thing to do.)
I hope he will be able to help our Protestant brothers and sisters understand how badly they have been led astray by the mango in the White House and restore neighborly love.
I doubt one of those.. moderate. It’s going to be interesting that he has to deal with “homosexual”
Priests as he has expressed views against it in the past.
As someone who grew up with all those European popes, I was surprised at how emotional it made me to read about a US born Pope following a South American pope.
The kindness shows in his face. May God bless him and inspire him to lead us to be more compassionate and build bridges with our fellow brothers and sisters.
My husband and I are Protestants and are also pleased by this choice. He seems like a real man of God. We pray that he be blessed and protected as he does the Lord's work here on earth.
Sure would be nice if ‘turned in dozens of pedophile priests’ was among those descriptors... Never change Catholic Church, #thebiggestpedoringinhumanhistory.
I see this selection as a response to a global crisis: the rise of authoritarianism in the U.S. I hope Pope Leo XIV doesn’t hold back. May God bless him—and help guide all of us out of the mess we’ve made of our country and for all those we've negatively affected across the globe.
I hope so
I am an atheist,
but I believe the world needs more decent people with a compassionate thinking for the needs of the weakest in the world.
Especially in these radicalized times
Many of us have concerns for his stance on some of the most marginalized and vulnerable groups.
He may stand with immigrants, but his past shows he does not stand with LGBT+ people. Nor with women. Children who were victims of abusive priests don't seem to find any solace in his actions either.
May God bless him. As he came out with all the people in the square, it looked at one point he got a little emotional…I do feel his heart in that moment…I will pray for him everyday…❤️🔥💮
Can we agree Pope Leo XIV is not the first American Pope, as news outlets (NPR News) are stating? Francis was an American Pope too. He is the first born in the USA.
And God bless him on his heavy burdens moving forward. I think this is a good selection.
I get where you’re coming from, but, disagree that it is dismissive or incorrect to refer to citizens of the United States of America as “Americans.” Not only is it what the entire world calls us, it’s part of the name of our country and most of us identify by nationality vice continent -
I had the privilege of being a founding member of a parish founded by Father Jim Miller here in North Texas and I am so pleased with the election of Pope Leo
I, like many others, am concerned about his LGBTQ-related statements from years ago. But if you're enthusiastic about this outcome, that's enough for me to have hope. People can exhibit change from what they once appeared to be; indeed, that's something of an essential principle of Christian faith.
His statements were well into the period where there was increasing mainstream acceptance, but I'm always willing to give someone a chance. Many people in my life have come around.
Francis allegedly had enough votes to block Benedict in 2005, but declined. There was a diversity of thought in what direction the Church should go, and friction with Benedict. All of us can only think and be accountable for ourselves.
In any case, he is very welcome to redeem himself.

“We have to be a church that works together to build bridges and to keep our arms open like this very piazza—welcoming.” Pope Leo XIV

And I am absolutely shocked they elected an American as pope. Wow.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Priests as he has expressed views against it in the past.
I think Pope Leo shines a light upon the most basic moral questions.
First, love thy neighbor.
Building bridges
Peace be with you 🕊️
Chicago, rather less humbly:
And with your spirit!!!!✌️

Or that women can be religious leaders at the same level as men.
Jesus never said women had to give birth to their rapist’s
baby.

Even older Francis was different from a dogmatic younger Francis.
