They feed it to farmed salmon! 🙄 If I ate salmon once a year in my youth, I'd think myself lucky. It was line caught in rivers. Maybe time to end the fish farms if they are the reason the seas are scoured clean of any life.

Not to mention the ridiculously unsustainable ways a lot of this stuff is fished ie. bottom trawling. Banning that alone would immediately put our oceanic ecosystems on a better course especially combined with other action to curtail unsustainable & hyper-extractive fisheries.

Forcing more sustainable practices onto fish farms would be a step in the right direction too, fish meal is in high demand in no small part thanks to all the farmed salmon & other fish that need omega 3s & such.

A *Save Our Sprat* campaign was recently launched, to push for an immediate ban on all sprat fishing in Irish waters, with a very well-attended public meeting held in Bantry just over a week ago.

Yes - wrong upon wrong. "When they are caught, most sprat are sold to fish farms as fishmeal. It takes roughly 3-5kg of fishmeal to produce 1kg of farmed salmon."
