The *last* one I bought (new, not to replace something sentimental) on VHS was Titanic; too long to fit on one tape at regular quality so it came as a 2-pack and you have to get up and change tapes when the fake "intermission" theater curtain graphic comes up on screen

Trying to think of foundational movies I've since seen on digital, rather than on a screen or on VHS (recorded off of broadcast TV or rented from a video rental store)

There's been an explosion of certain types of low-budget indie films that really scratch my particular itch but "big release" stuff has collapsed into Sequel Soup with a large side dish of cynical remakes

Yeah, there are tons of really creative things still being made but they take a bit of searching, and they probably have trouble on their end getting audiences a lot of the time

If you're making subculture stuff, can get word-of-mouth within the target subculture and keep your budget sized for the target audience, filmmaking is a more viable career now than it was when corporate distribution was make or break

Also, no more up front physical media costs for direct to video
