I’m impressed with the care with which the Hannah Dugan Legal Defense Fund has been set up. Because judges must be beyond reproach when it comes to accepting gifts, there are strict restrictions on who may donate. List of excluded donor categories in photo. 2/
@heidilifeldman They need to specify what org(s) any left over funds will be donated to. Otherwise... at this early stage before they have any idea what the defense will cost it's sort of problematic to ask for money to go "somewhere"
@ferrix Hi again - here’s what the website now says, “Any left over funds that are not used to pay defense expenses will be distributed by the Trustee to one or more qualified nonprofit organizations.” I wouldn’t be surprised if it leftover money were given to immigrant legal aid.
@heidilifeldman Not good enough; why are they being cagey about this? I don't want to assume bad faith, but it would be so easy to say what kind(s) of charity, if not which exact ones
Note that the Hannah Dugan Legal Defense Fund will not be accepting contributions from many of those who know her - not just attorneys and other judges but also all residents of Milwaukee County, where she lives. So it is going to be important for the rest of us to contribute what we can. 3/3 […]
My receipt for a contribution to the Hannah Dugan Legal Defense Fund. A small-dollar donation but I know that these add up. https://www.hannahdugandefensefund.org/ 4/3
