I don't think the average American distinguishes between tax cuts for the rich and tax cuts for themselves. I think they hear tax cuts and support that regardless of who's the primary beneficiary

Whenever someone makes the argument that the billionaires are job creators, I ask them if they believe that all those people would be unemployed without them. I never get an answer.

When they argue in favor of Bezos, it's even more ridiculous. He's ended so many small businesses, he's a job killer.

They aren’t job creators. They are wealth gatherers. No company strategic plan ever measured success by increasing headcount. In fact, they become wealth hoarders with the goal always being to increase profits and decrease overhead

Imo, many Americans worship money, fame and perceived power.

And with my psychotherapist hat on, I imagine it's their idealized/wished-for selves. So if you rein in the billionaires, you're reining in hopes and dreams. Can't have that.

The simple answer is that social media has so addled their minds that they're incapable of sustained attention. Moreover, the job creator myth persists despite shareholder primacy making it impossible. Lastly, trickle-down was old-hat in the '80s, just repackaged Horse and Sparrow Theory.

Of course it will still work for them. A significant segment of the electorate still ascribes to the position that rich people deserve more than what they already have and that poor people get more than they deserve.
