Way to make me root for Luigi. UnitedHealth really should be disbanded and its officials imprisoned for this.

A Guardian investigation UnitedHealth Group has secretly paid nursing homes thousands in bonuses to help slash hospital transfers for ailing residents.

In several cases, nursing home residents who needed immediate hospital care under the program failed to receive it.

I know a guy who loves how his advantage plan gives him "$75.00 for free every month for whatever I want." Never mind that it backed out due to "technicalities" -- after the fact, no less -- on the $2600.00 in medical bills they promised to pay. But yeah... that "free money" makes it all worth it. 😑

I’ve got some horror stories.

Most major commercial payers and MCOs have incentives in place but not “specifically” for denying care.

Nothing about this surprises me, but it never stops breaking my heart.

I know their first step is to deny care and to keep denying it whenever possible. There's no point in paying for insurance if coverage is going to be denied all the time, though. But I'm not surprised that they have such vile incentives. Insurance companies are greedy whores for $$$.

I was reading through an MCO provider manual recently and it listed how staff is rewarded but not “specifically” for “denying services”

I need to find it again, the wording was so sickening.

Oh, it's definitely a scam. And it's not only health insurance. Look at what home insurers are doing to their customers while they rake in increasing profits and pay their executives millions. People are dying and losing homes, all to benefit insurers, not their customers.

I wouldn't go so far as to root for Luigi. Nevertheless, medical care should not be a for-profit business. Imagine making the fire department a for-profit business. It's the same thing. You can't plan for it or budget for it. Everyone should pay into it so we can all use it when we need it.

And again, if this is what we know, imagine what we don’t know. My first year on Medicare I was on United. It was there much marketed AARP Riverbank plan. They declined everything including a flu shot. I had to call on everything and speak to an Asian call center.

I am going on Medicare in October, not Medicare Advantage. I'll get scripts elsewhere. And I will NEVER use United Healthcare (or Humana) bc of their history of putting profits over people. I'd rather file medical bankruptcy than reward insurance companies, tbh.

My agent told me it was a great plan. If you’re never sick, you don’t take any medication, and you don’t go to the doctor. How true that was.
