The way you all act like they should have been like some children's movie where they earn their way to the top whole operating off of a budget of a gift card and a soggy sandwich in a heartfelt way is so childish. Organized sports are all about money. Grow up.
Way to go, Wrexham! Thank you, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, for buying the club, having faith in it, and making it so successful. Premier League next time!
The cynicism around Wrexham's success constantly baffles me, and in most cases comes from nothing but jealousy. Yes money went into the club, but did so in the way that it should. Hiring the right decision makers, improving infrastructure....they didn't just blow a load of cash on star players.
Exactly. Putting very good players on one squad does not make a very good team. You need the right talent as well as the right attitude. This is still a great story.
It's almost as if when owners are committed to club success and winning instead $$$ and hording more wealth....the team succeeds AND they get press & money.
Rob and Ryan gonna need some fresh investors surely. But that’s tomorrow. Enjoy today Wrexham. Seems on all accounts they’ve been building the right way
This is exactly how teams go bankrupt. They spend big on three to four additions thinking it's going to help them make the premier league, they don't make the premiership, and then they have anchor contracts that bankrupt them. And it's so hard for Welsh clubs to develop talent internally.
For me maximum effort still belongs to Grimsby Town, who were just 2 results away from achieving the same feat in the early 80s, but on a shoestring budget and having 3/4 of the squad throughout the divisions.
Even more strange was their manager George Kerr winning promotion in his first two seasons and after being sacked the season following missing promotion to div1, he never managed another season anywhere without suffering relegation.
It's the same thing. Brute force through outspending everyone else in the division. But no one is trying to sell the narrative of Man City being a plucky team with a dream anymore.
Congratulations. That is impressive. Next season the will play against former PL champions like Leicester and Blackburn. Also big matches against former PL teams like Southampton, Middlesbrough, West Brom, QPR and Sweansea. The next season though
Delighted to see wrexham back at the top of English football long ways to go sti but they've knocked it out of the ballpark these last few years good people deserve good things onwards and upwards 💪🏼
It is not just the money that won 3 promotions. Parky worked on teamwork getting players in that had the same philosophy that is why they won as each year there has always been at least 1 team that spent more.
happy for the people of wrexham because they're proud folk who'd been through the wringer for years and it's undoubtedly brought the town together, but clubs shooting up several leagues because of benefactors isn't great for the pyramid, whoever they are.
Is it though? Wrex has had an influx of millions of dollars. Something the other clubs did not have. The question is, should there have been more pressure to do it?
Not at a non league level and to the extent that they've spent. They were paying championship level wages in league 2. They've basically bought their way into the championship but they can't afford to compete at that level moving forward. Gonna spend a minimum of 4yr there if they don't go back down
Just being real. They can't afford a loss of 20m+ next year which is the average loss a championship club makes. Not to mention they'll need a lot of new signings and especially a new manager to even challenge for a top half of table finish.
You can start with Salford City F.C., which has been taken over by a bunch of ex-Man U players since 2014. David Beckham joined the ownership group in 2019.
It’s a valid point. And of course more than the money, they created a huge international buzz for a small club like Wrexham. To keep it up the energy they had to deliver, and they have. You’re right though, the money lets them break through more hurdles.
Well done but it won't be 4 in a row though. Getting up from the Championship is a bloodbath. They are going to need to invest a fortune now to compete just against the 3 EPL teams getting relegated with their parachute payments never mind the rest of the league.
As a Pompey fan, this is spot on. We were ecstatic to retain our status this season. It’s a tough league. And we are owned by US billionaires but also want to be sustainable after what’s happened before. Well done Wrexham. You’ve earned it.
People really need to get a grasp of the difference between wealthy and the Uber wealthy.
Yes, the owners brought money four years ago and did most things right.
But they are little fish compared to the failures of whales at the top levels.
R & R are good people.
Congratulations and good luck! 🇨🇦
Leicester had one of the lowest paid and cheaply assembled squads in the Premier League when they won it, they really were a surprise package.
Blackburn were totally bankrolled though.

Sit down.
And yet Birmingham City have spent more than double the money Wrexham spent, and the original post has nothing to say about them.
Got to already have it to get it
The 16th most valuable Championship team is with £46 million (Bristol City).
The (likely) 3 demoted team from the prem are all worth over £270 million.
Good luck to them!

Talk about Swings and Roundabouts!
Here's how they did it... 📈
….mmmmmmmmm……
….mmmmmm….
Please do enlighten me.
Odd to me...Why would you say something of which you have no clue??

Do you need a hug?
