Ref and VAR on the day were desperate for United to win the game. Every time Bournemouth tackled someone we had a 5 minute VAR check, until the ref got his wish to send Evanilson off and NEITHER the ref OR VAR made any mention of the fact that he clearly slipped! Either inept or corrupt, maybe both

In fairness. A slip doesn’t mean it’s not a foul. But agree it should definitely be factored in to whether it’s a red card as there is clearly no malicious intent

Agreed, but like rugby it should be used as mitigation against giving a red card. Alan Smith was on comms and they can hear the conversation between VAR and the ref, and he said neither party even mentioned the fact that he slipped. Just a shocking level of incompetence

Correct. If Mazaroui's leg was planted any different it could have easily been a break, but he only slipped so makes a reckless challenge okay somehow 🤷🤷

But Adams challenge earlier in the game was a lot worse and somehow escaped a red.

Including Evanilson in this as well as Bruno, I don't think there was any malice in either of their challenges but they were reckless. If a player goes charging / running in for a challenge they have to be in control.

Excusing slips just invites convenient excuses for reckless tackles in the future

Yeah same issue for both they are not in control and are part to blame for how there tackle looks

Like a keeper charging out to punch a ball your responsible for what contact you make in the process of doing so

On other hand i do agree VAR is overused and that refs call should be way for these

As a player and a fan I don’t like to see players sent off for a slip. I remember beginning of the season Bruno being sent off for a slip against Spurs. That being said I think the height of the challenge and the fact he’s gone in with both legs like that has done him here
