The problem is that this skips over the ethics and fairness of how certain clubs are compliant with PSR despite reckless spending, how many rules the have been bent or broken to allow that, who allowed it, and why.

This boils down to the very integrity of the game. Nothing is more important.

We all know that certain 'brand' clubs will always be allowed to revise and circumvent rules in order to accumulate massive headroom. The PL will never restrict their cash cows from spending; flexibility that isn't afforded to anyone else.

This isn't theory. It is happening in front of our eyes.

The regulation is well intended, but a joke. Any teams coming up for promotion will not have much of a chance if they don’t invest in the squad. Also clubs fudging numbers by creative accounting methods. The spirit wasn’t so clubs had to sell their academy players to pass the test.

Only if they were foresighted enough to invest properly in them. Some clubs haven't bothered. Some won the WSL a time or two but let it slide. Credit is due to Abramovich for listening to Hayes and taking women's football seriously.

True. But Chelsea FC can't now book the annual profits from the hotels in the accounts. Swings & roundabouts.
Spurs cash still book the period from their NFL games and gigs.

PL clubs have agreed to allow it. Chelsea may still have trouble meeting the UEFA limits, which don't.

Yeah after asking the question, I looked up the player sales and realised it was a bit of a daft question. Nearly £500m in sales over the last 2 years. A fair few were for pure profit as well.

yeah there is a lot to track. Add in all the amortization stuff for incomings, the creative accounting with the moving of assets and... yeah. I am gonna leave accounting to accountants and try to concentrate on the simpler stuff like watching the football :D

If by "intrigue", you mean the clubs with the biggest revenue continually spending freely, despite poor performances. Whilst others do well but have to sell top players every summer just to compete.... I would call that unfair, rather than intriguing.
