I don’t buy a lot of clothes, what I do get is usually on sale. But. I have a $900 jacket that I spent $450 on (back in 1998) that I wore to spin records for a special gig and proceeded to wear it everywhere, all the time. It’s a little tighter 😂 and needs a new lining but I have no regrets about $
That’s just kind of average for a nice coat that’s not made by slaves in Bangladesh. It’s a lot, but actual tailored clothing takes an artisan many many hours to make, by hand. People gotta get paid for labor and expertise
True. Does not change the fact that tarrif surcharges have nothing to do with quality or labor, only origin. And now a person will pay an artisan price for the same product.
(For the record, I have no idea who or where this brands coats are made, nor how employees are paid.)
Well, me neither, I’m just making an assumption of quality based on a price comparison with a like a $45 fast fashion coat from H&M or something (also I’m assuming a level of quality and craftsmanship based on OP and what I know about their fashion)
You’ve grown up your entire life in a system designed to depress the actual price of clothing by having it assembled in the CHEAPEST places to manufacture in the world. Clothing for most of human history cost so much more than it does now.
Wealth disparity in a nutshell. Also, just because something is cheap doesn't mean it's really that bad. I keep all my poor man's clothes in good condition.
