Grand slam has never been a pay-per-view. I don't know why people got this confusion. They never advertised it as such. I think some third parties may have but they never did officially.

Also it was a great show. What does it matter at this point?

There’s a simple way to determine if a show is in-canon a PPV in AEW - whether or not there’s a new Hey, EW that weekend. There was not this weekend (and incidentally, there was one amidst Wrestle Dynasty).

The Wikipedia article for Grand Slam Australia described it as a PPV for quite a while. Last month I was trying to verify whether it actually was a PPV and couldn't find where it was sourced from.

The announcement of Grand Slam had no tv because AEW hadn't signed the WBD deal yet. In fact, I think that's why they gave it an established tv special name to make it clear. And still...
