I think it's attached to the account stuff, so it should be available for Switch 1. Either there's a miscommunication somewhere, or someone is being dumb.

This is how it's worded on the Nintendo Today app. It does make it sound like it's exclusive to Switch 2 (at least, being able to select it is probably exclusive to Switch 2).

Yeah, it'd be weird if you could set it as your profile on Switch 2 then it can show up on Switch 1 but can't be selected. Wouldn't put it past them to try and use icons as a selling point though.
