When installing Node.js, npm comes bundled as the default package manager. However, our website uses pnpm instead.

But what does this say about npm? It looks from the outside like it’s admitting pnpm is superior. It’s the opposite of dogfooding.

No, both have their pros and cons. We use pnpm to make it easier to review PRs that update the package-lock.
There's no need to get into the debate about which one is better, use whatever your project needs.
