Well, I'm against any book with only straight, white characters in school because they don't represent the diversity of the real world. I want them all removed, or my child shouldn't have to read any of them. Ridiculous!

The Catholic parents who object to these books are forgetting the basic teaching of Christianity - Love thy neighbor as thyself.

At the very least, one should try to live in peace and harmony with those one doesn’t understand or feel comfortable with.

Having your child read a book containing LGBTQ characters does not violate your religious freedom. You remain free to teach your children your religious views about such people. Just because you don't condone it doesn't mean you get to skip it. Opt out of evolution? Health class on polio vaccine?

It does not infringe on your religious freedom because people or ideas or facts you don't believe in exist. Otherwise, does your kid get to opt out of a whole year because there is a child of a different religion in their class? An atheist? A female teacher?
