One of our late Siamese used to steal my ex's socks...clean ones only...carefully lay them out, place a mouthful of kibble on them & eat her kibble off the socks. Other than pissing him off, we never knew why. It's the small victories, apparently. π€£
Ballou sometimes does that, too. The funniest thing is when he gets startled by something while eating, runs away and the food is still falling from his mouth..so he then retreads his steps and eats it π
Ok so my older dog has started doing this, however when she tries to retrace her steps it's too late... the younger dog has been waiting and grabbed them! (Her eyes say something about "if it's on the floor it's fair game π€·πΎββοΈ") π
I wonder if the dogs do it because while they were in the liter box the serving dish was small and they learned to grab some food and move away from the other pups who were also trying to eat from the dish?
Is it a small and/or deep bowl? Cats don't like their whiskers to touch things, so if a good bowl is irritating them, they will take the food out to eat it from a more accessible surface :)
I give my cats wet and dry food separately and the little one will swap them from one bowl to the other, as well as just dropping it on the feeding mat and eating it there. Whisker fatigue, or just chaos mode? Who can say?
OMG yes!! Willow does this all the time π we often joke and are like why do we even bother to put it on a lil plate for her when sheβs going to be ultimately eating it off the floor lol
Thatβs pretty standard. If we offer ours something left on a plate, the first thing he does is drag it off the plate, then heβll mess around with it before walking away.
Comments
1. Knocking food kernels all over the floor to eat them Pac-Man style.
2. Dunking food in water.
3. Consuming water mainly by soaking paw & slurping water from fur.
4. Yeeting wet food onto floor and licking it from floor.
5. Dragging bowl onto heating pad.
They seemed they wanted to see what was going on all the time so they would do just as you described.
She also liked the sometimes 'hide it' under like.. hand towels if they dropped to the floor somehow.
Wonderful beast she was, just a bit weird.
