smol thread on: how is bsky decentralized today

here’s a listing of your (public) data on atproto: atproto-browser.vercel.app/at/hbuchel.b...

it’s currently hosted on a bluesky server (scroll down for serviceEndpoint — that says who does your hosting). but you can move this data to another server or self-host it. the server itself is open source

ATProto Browser is really neat, thanks for sharing it. I do notice some things that seem to not be on protocol which could be annoying for rebuilding your experience after https://bsky.app exploding. But maybe I'm missing where they are.

Namely, I see a collection for blocklists, but not labelers or feeds.

right. private data like settings isn’t on the protocol right now. the team will be adding a concept of selectively-shared state which will allow to fold that into the protocol. i’m not sure what the story would be for transferring it but i assume it would be a part of your backup. cc @bnewbold.net

That's fair. From my perspective, I don't see the labelers or feeds someone uses as excessively private. Compared to some of the stuff that is public, like likes and blocks, I don't know if there's any specific privacy violation in knowing if someone can see @sonasky.app labels or has a Mutuals tab

And I'm a big user of both, I have a lot of vanity labels on my account and I follow lots of feeds to satisfy my sporadic interests
