In terms of stuff I think you'd have a great time covering, I agree with the comment recommending Locked Tomb. Solid and/or weird plots + fun characters + when it hits it goes hard

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman (and the unfinished 2nd trilogy: The Book of Dust)
Both very very near and dear to my heart. They filled the void left by that transphobeβs wizard books.
We have fond memories of His Dark Materials. Who isn't a fan of Pantalaimon?!
Itβs a sci-fi (I see Dune inspiration) spin/retelling of the old Snow Queen story. Very good books
