I don’t think everyone grasps how important the decision tree is to the enjoyment of games. I’ve been brewing a deck based on the notion of trying to get the table to play through a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book together. Goal isn’t to win, but to try and add the most branches to the tree.
I made a deck based off choices but went with the Prisoners Dilemma instead of Choose Your Own Adventure. On some axis, you and I accidentally became the antagonists to each other.
But we had the same idea. Every card needs to prompt a choice.
Do you have a link to a decklist? I’m intrigued! I love that they’re printing more stuff to support these kinds of builds. I don’t think every match needs it, but it’s fun with the right pod.
I had thought the funniest thing to do with Universes Beyond/Within would be to partner a Strangers Thing kid with a Universe Within character, but I feel it actually works flavorfully here. Mike is the kid reading the book, Cecily is your in-story companion.
I had started working on this idea during lockdown while my playgroup moved to Cockatrice. It didn’t really function then, but there’s been a lot more fun stuff printed that adds to it.
I'm not exaggerating when I say that this card single handedly made me buy the blame game precon, and that winning the game by resolving it with a Boros Gisela in play is one of my favourite memories.
The fact that it has flashback too so people can backstab each other AGAIN is just... chef's kiss.
This is also a very clever reference to the actual game theory and the iterative version of the dilemma. Knowing that your choice might come around again and people will know if you backstabbed changes things significantly.
