we have black bears, skunks, possums, wood chucks, foxes and deer in my neighborhood. Other than the loss of some bird feeders, they live in harmony with us and cause no problems.

When we lived in the US, these guys and possums were regular visitors. The skunks we would see were mostly white with a black stripe or two, very pretty little animals. Possums are also charming btw :)

Opossum is the other unjustly maligned species. They, too, are nature's answer to ticks, carrion, small rodents, insects, lawn grubs, etc.

I adore skunks. Leave them be! They try very hard to avoid people and their pets. Take care when driving at night as they are hard to see and often can be found scavenging near roadways.

I took a lidded cup off a skunk last year. No spray, it gratefully scurried away.

It could have died surrounded by the sweet scent of some iced coffee drink. Please trash your trash!

give them their space and they will not bother you. They WILL eat your chickens eggs if you don't make your area predator proof.....that's on YOU. They are also interested in your insects and mice. They enjoy small snakes when found as well. I personally welcome these creatures on my property as

Don't make them feel threatened and they won't spray. Animals aren't the scary ones, for the most part, we are, and as the article states, it dehydrates them to use their spray, the poor things. I kinda wish we did have them in the UK.

It is possible to find domesticated skunks in the UK, though they are very rare.
Skunks are same family, so they are cousins, of the more popular domesticated ferrets.

They are all over the area around KY/TN border. Land Between the Lakes area. The Animal Refuge has some that walk around loose. There are signs everywhere to not bother them, they are suppose to be there.
