You're missing the point, I'm all for alternative packaging but why wrap all the groceries in miles of plastic then deny you a plastic bag? It's performative eco-politics.
Soon microplastics will be in everything- food, air, water.
Plastics should have been highly regulated and instead they turned them loose on the entire globe.
The amount of plastic we use for packaging is a bigger problem, but switching to reusable bags is an easy way to lessen our environmental impact. Plastic is cheap and waterproof which makes it ideal packaging for many items, so it’s hard to come up with a good replacement.
I agree, it's just convenient that it's never the suppliers that have to do their little bit for the environment it's always the consumer legislated against instead, I wonder why? *Cough* profits *cough*
Still, as long as we feel like we're helping.
Paper bags hold so much more and if you're taking them home in a car, paper bags don't let oranges escape and roll under the seat.😉 Paper is also easier to reuse or recycle.
Explain the logic to me then. My products are wrapped in the stuff. I'm not advocating for plastic I'm trying to see how the "ban" on plastic bags is anything but performative eco-politics designed to hypocritically ease the conscience of consumers.
Why should I try to save money (5% of my salary) when it’s impossible to save. It’s a self defeating argument. Why should I not get plastic bags when a lot of things already have plastic… or paper straws… Defeatism wrapped in whataboutism IMHO.
BTW your argument is a form of whataboutism. Whataboutism deflects criticism or undermines a point by bringing up a different issue, often to imply hypocrisy or futility.
Instead of engaging the merits of reducing plastic use where possible, it shifts the focus to suggest doing anything is useless
Saying we shouldn’t skip plastic bags because some food comes wrapped in plastic is like saying there’s no point quitting smoking because the air is polluted. Small choices still matter.
Have you noticed though it's never the causes of the problem addressed, only around the fringes that are legislated against, corporations should be legislated against BEFORE consumers are but god forgive the corps lose any of their climbing profits. Small actions result in small consequences.
