Can't do this in the heat of summer in the south but I just buy an organic bunch and stick it in the ground..keep it well watered. It takes awhile to get to normal eating size but it tastes so much better than the parent plant. You can also do this inside if you have a grow light.

Wrapping the celery stalks makes them thicker and less bitter. This is my first time growing celery so I don't have any anecdotal evidence - just going by what others do.

interesting! I'd never heard that.

I've grown celery for a few years now, but interplant it mostly for is beneficial pest properties...so I always wind up with way more plants than what we actually would eat (and often chop-n-drop them at the end of the season)

When I was researching how to grow celery I saw a lot of gardeners blanching the stalks to make them thicker, so I figured I'd give it a go. I left a few unwrapped just to see if it is worth the effort. I have way more plants than I need, too. I'm planning on freezing and dehydrating most of it.

The wrapped celery will have better texture and flavor. The advantage of leaving some uncovered is the ability to harvest "cut and come again" style and just take a few stalks. It's more difficult to do in a raised bed, but many cover celery by hilling earth up the sides. I love your experiment!

I tried celery one time 3 years ago, and it was super tough and so strong in flavor, it was spicy. Luckily, I'm giving it another go this year & stumbled upon your post just in time! Thanks for sharing!

I personally dislike celery so I wouldn't grow them (it's a gene thing), but thankfully we are all different and we all have different tastes.
