We gotta normalize single-player narrative games just being really short and replayable with a lot of variable things that can happen again, instead of being long and bloated with busywork.

I feel it's a flaw in writing when it's referencing something that happened 20, 30, 40 hours ago and you can't even remember it because it was a small subtext thing.
I completely disagree. I think there’s something to be gained from telling a story that takes a long time to unfold. It adds more suspense and gives you a lot to sink your teeth into. Of course not every story needs to be that long but their’s definitely value to telling a story over a lot of time.
