It’s the time of year when you might find a baby bird and want to help. Most often (and slightly counterintuitively) it’s best to do nothing. Here’s a useful guide.

I found 4 baby birds and called a bird sanctuary for instructions. I built a new nest with a plastic dish & Spanish moss & hung it near their old nest. 1 was injured and didn’t make it but the other 3 did great and left the nest. I wasn’t going to do nothing and leave them to predators.
I tried to relocate a fledgeling crow who had just come out of his nest and not walking in a very open dog heavy area to the nearest bushes which unfortunately were a few minutes walk away, and basically the parent crow didn't follow.
I've encountered a few fledglings. We use to have house finches nest in our garage tarps and they would end up on the ground. We first thought they fell from the nest and put them back but they kept "falling out" so we moved them to a tree cuz we had dogs that could try and eat them. Seemed to work.
2 years ago a hawk got a nest on my down spout 1 missing, 1 still in the nest & 1 on the ground. I successfully got the b bird back in the nest only to have it attacked a few days later w/ no birds left.
Last year a different species moved in & was wiped clean. I removed the nest it was cursed.
I came across two pigeon chicks at ground level in an architectural space against a wall between two pillars.
In a busy pedestrian area.
There seemed to be no nest material.
l left fearing I would spook the parents.
I'd heard that pigeons can be lousy nest builders. But with rats in the area?
What do you do when your cat brings you a baby Mocking Bird? Well you put into some likely bush and it will grow up, nest in your yard and treat you like a god.
Found a lovely nest that had fallen out of tree. No eggs or birds in it. I put back in tree, but doubt it was in same spot. Felt bad for all the hard work that went into building that nest & now probably won't be used.

We're now on the 2nd brood of Mourning Doves from the nest on the porch. Next two should be leaving the nest soon.
This flowchart would save the most bird lives.
