Why would they care about an existential threat to us? They're going to be fine under fascism, but if ordinary people rise up, they're not going to be rich anymore.

It's the same mentality of white plantation owners during slavery. Freedom is dangerous to them, but they can live with a dictator

Theoden was king and refusing to use his power when it was needed. He wasn't evil or a problem on purpose. But he was a problem.

Theoden either needed to come to his senses (which he did with the breaking of Wormtounge's hold on him), be removed from power, or the realms of men would fall. Period.
