If you’re talking about the San Diego Union-Tribune, the word “useless” comes to mind too. Not sure why they exist unless it’s to make someone money. They’ve been trying to sell me an annual subscriptions for $1. They’d have to pay me more than that just to read it.
There are no local reporters. Everything is sourced from newswires. That is why the concentration of news by billionaires and mega corporations is so dangerous.
It is the financial limitations of Free Press. Small newspapers have zero financial flexibility between the rent, the expert labor and the printing, publishing and web content management to field reporters. "Freedom" cannot be subservient to money. If working for accredited news organizations were
part of Americorps repayment of educational loans, scores of young people would apply, be taught about the inner workings of politics, business, finance, economics, for 2+ years.
The San Diego UT is hanging by a thread but we San Diegans have KPBS, various local magazines and even the UCSD paper reports from the grass roots. Please support vs tear down local journalists.
