Mine was still set for channel 3 so that the new invention, the video cassette recorder, could be used. And yes, in 1984 my mother was a relatively late adopter.
Channel 4 in my area was a VHF broadcast station; it’s still signed as that despite being a digital over-air channel now.
We got one in like 1983 and I had never heard of one before. But we also lived in rural Georgia so that’s probably why. The one we had was a top loader and the plug-in remote did nothing but pause and unpause 😂
