I’ve found that unless I use a 2 to 1 ratio of avocado to wool, the dye is pretty faint beige, even with a mordant

I didn't really mordant it, per say, as I don't have anything that is technically a mordant. I do soak my wool in a vinegar solution for a bit before dyeing to encourage staining lol.

My understanding of avocado dying is that the color developed best with an alkaline dyebath. (Ie add baking soda not vinegar). The tanins in the avocado will help the color adhere to the yarn but a mordant like alumn will help. Alumn is not food safe and needs a dedicated pot.
