"Salvageable" is a strong word, lol, I paid half the price of the laptop for the replacement part. (Still cheaper than a new laptop, though)

Ouch. Yeah, that sounds about right. I think I destroyed our macbook when I did that - they were able to get the data onto an external and that was it. I suppose half is still cheaper than brand new, but...
