My 3rd grade teacher built a loft in our classroom-The Pirate’s Nest. It was used as a reward system, and the daily recipient went to the library alone and read in the pillow filled fort overlooking our class.
I remember way, way, waaaaayyyy back when I was little, they used to take us to the library to watch The Electric Company, but if any of us wanted to read a book instead we could go peruse the stacks and read 📚
Late 70s, so there were only a handful of us... but I really enjoyed that time.
Absolutely loved it. During SRA time, we could sit wherever we wanted. I always picked this wide windowsill with a big curtain to wrap around me. My own space.
Heh. When I was in grade school (over a half-century ago) I angrily yelled out "QUIET!" while in the school library (a single room--at least we had one).
The room went silent.
Although there were only about 30 students and I was easily identifiable, my teacher did nothing to admonish me.

Andrea—“got your nose in a book again…”
😁
So many books—life too short.

Loved that time!
But after that, oh yes 💜💜💜
Schools are so noisy.
