as I’ve posted before, I learned this in 1999 at the WTO protests in Seattle. when we got home and watched the news we saw a completely different event than we’d just been in, and we were in the front getting tear gassed

This is feeling disturbingly like the discourse around the college protests last spring: media and elected officials painted a picture of chaos and violence (supposedly committed by protestors) that was practically unrecognizable to anyone on the ground.

Traveling around the country people would ask "is everything okay in Portland?" "Is the city burned down?"
Everything that happened was 1. Instigated by Taco and his goons 2. Less than a city block 3. The only thing on fire was a dumpster the news kept showing over and over
