One thing: if it takes an enormous amount of power to "write" term papers or composite a fake photograph of a dog mowing the lawn on the moon, how much power would it take to make the Star Trek holodecks that are probably a goal (after the "bestest sexbots," of course)?
It's all a house of cards money grab. GenAI in and of itself is a lie.
The amount of resources being dumped into it all, based on fantasies rooted in lies and science fiction, vs any true equitable return is nothing short of a grand lesson in folly.
