The Iron Man movies we're a mistake, they made people believe that Iron Man could really exist and one of them even had a cameo of R̶e̶d̶ ̶S̶k̶u̶l̶l̶ Elon Musk.

Stark however did not run multiple companies. He even gave up his position as CEO of his company. I guess the writers figured it would be unrealistic to have Stark doing a high demanding job of helping the government, while also running a single company full time.
