besides classes at comm college, it is my understanding that the extension centers are usually run by agricultural schools so may be more resourceful. I know that, in MD, their site lists native flowers/shrubs/trees that may do well in the different parts of the state (like Eastern shore vs Central)
Sure! If you're in the Bay Area I can offer specific places but in general, search for your town/county/state native plant societies, find local plant nurseries that specialize in natives, and even check your water provider for tips and rebates on lawn conversions!
