I think part of the problem is that we have collectively forgotten that non-market solutions are possible. People can't imagine how to decouple housing from capitalism. We have a lot of work to do to convince the average person that socialized construction and ownership of housing is even a thing.

I completely agree. But as Stephanie Smith lays out in this thread, we have to be careful how we define non-market/non-profit housing because much of BC's "affordable non-profit housing" actually isn't. Oh hey :) Yes, that's an issue we've seen locally and it's not just local - e.g., Ricardo Tranjan has identified that shift in meaning as constitutive of a disinformation system. The UN "adequate housing" standard is much more robust but folks often don't know what it means. Lots of work to do.
