I apologize, I may have misinterpreted your earlier comment. That understanding is correct, but (to try and tie it to your earlier bit) the IR allowed one person to own a company big enough to employ thousands of people. And subsequently, treat them all badly enough that they refused to work

Prior to the Industrial Revolution, it just wasn’t feasible to found a company that gave you that kind of power, unless you had wealth (in which case you were likely a monarch)

It's a slow process that started in Italy in the Renaissance era. Things like accounting and banking techniques. That produced a LOT of wealth, which was used to sponsor artists AND engineers AND mathematicians. Math teachers dueled with each others through math to get a job in a rich family.

(1/2) While technically true (the best kind of true!) it’s important to narrow the historical context a reasonable amount: the industrial revolution was absolutely the result of hundreds of years of advancement, but capitalism’s explosion is directly tied to it.

(2/2) The wealth created during the Renaissance was, at the end of the day, passed on through noble families or people of status. The IR allowed capitalism to expand to anyone who had enough influence to have others work for them.
