I guess my question is, is there a way to come up with an alternative without it being crushed by the already existing payment processing giants? Could crypto be a solution and actually be useful for something other than scams?

Nope, I've seen various sex workers try and set up their own versions of OF and all fall at the first hurdle of payment processors.

i am just imagining a site that would require you to setup a direct debit to use XD

although one advantage with that is that(in the UK) it would give the customer more control over the reoccurring payment, but less protections from fraud

And also same issue, nobody wants to pay with something that looks sketchy as hell. There's enough issues getting people to use sites that aren't the recognised biggest sex work platforms because people worry they're signing up to a dodgy fucked website.

I once read that only 1% of people actually act on buying content from sex workers. This tracks in my experience. The more clicks you put between people and the content the less that 1% becomes. It's a drastic drop off. Crypto is a lot of clicking.
