Was it for this craven display that London endured the Blitz?

the contrast to Macron who challenged the orange one mid-sentence says it all and the UK are still banjaxed by tariffs - all of Starmers sucking up didn't work.
brexit has brought britain back to suez levels of geopolitical relevance.
I have no explanation of the reason why both the USA and the UK are dominated by populisms.
Why don’t we also talk of Italy and Austria? Or the Netherlands?
UK has FPTP - only belarus & UK in Europe still employ it. it's easy to gamify and get a huge majority of seats with a low amount of votes, because it shuts everyone else out.
And in both cases, populists are part of the government.
I guess it’s not a matter of voting mode.
It's not about 50+1 "winner takes it all" type setup that comes with FPTP, like how a king might have reigned. It's about finding the best solution for as many as possible in the electorate and if that includes RW views. So be it.
There are no political coalitions in the UK. There are political coalitions in the Netherlands.
But populists are present in government in both countries.
I guess the problem is not the voting system (PR or FPTP). It is the red rag of the bull.
which is why performative utterances tap into our "In-group vs. Out-group" works so well.

Education is key. the extraordinary map of EU election results in Germany illustrates that brilliantly.
You can even make out East West Berlin.
The capacity of cooperation depends on the political culture. That’s different.
It’s rather a matter of moral code : the country over the party, or not.
the capacitay of altruism & cooperation is innate to our species...as is "surivival advantage" and the fear of outsiders.
PR protects the electorate against populists gaining power.
