For some reason I always forget that samples are a thing. I always imagine composers creating all sounds from scratch and hiring sound designers and foley artista for stuff, especially when going back in time.

Tbh I rarely use any 'actual' samples. But I do use some sample based synths; the Roland JV-1080 is my number one guy. And then sometimes it's best to design something from scratch.

For SFX it's pretty much all from scratch for me, and foley-based where possible. Mostly because IT MAKES IT SO FUN!

I got it bundled with the latest version of Omnisphere, but I've definitely seen it floating around the internet! I imagine it's lovingly preserved on the IA.

It's not sold on its own anymore sadly (and goes for HIGH prices on eBay).

It is VERY good, if somewhat overwhelmingly massive.

I've started keeping a doc of my favourite sounds, broken up into genre. Otherwise it's too easy to get lost scrolling through stuff!

I've always used a program called CDXTRACT to open and browse Akai img files. It can also export the individual WAV files or in-tact programs as soundfonts/kontakt instruments/etc
